I build giant castles, yet tear down ancient mountains.
I blind a traveler, yet help another see.
Try to hold me tightly, and I slip right through your fingers.
Count me carefully, and I measure the march of time itself.
What am I?
Answer
Sand!
Here is why this trick works:
First, kids use sand to build sandcastles, but relentless sand erosion also wears down massive mountains over centuries. Second, blowing sand can blind your eyes, but melted sand turns into glass for reading spectacles! Third, dry sand always slips through your grip no matter how tightly you squeeze. Lastly, falling grains of sand are traditionally used in hourglasses to measure time.
Did I manage to stump you, or did you crack it instantly?
