Von Miller Is Joining the Dallas Cowboys
Von Miller has a new team.
The eight-time Pro Bowl pass rusher has agreed to join the Dallas Cowboys, bringing one of the NFL’s most decorated defensive players to his home-state team for the 2026 season. The Cowboys officially confirmed the agreement on August 16.
Miller, who is 37 years old, is coming off a productive 2025 season with the Washington Commanders. He recorded nine sacks last season and remains the NFL’s active leader in career sacks with 138.5.
What Is Von Miller’s Contract With the Cowboys?
The Cowboys and Miller agreed to a one-year contract. Reports from NFL insiders put the deal at $5.5 million, with incentives that could raise its maximum value to $7.5 million.
The move gives Dallas another experienced pass rusher as the team looks to improve a defense that struggled to generate sacks in 2025.
What Team Did Von Miller Play For Before the Cowboys?
Before joining Dallas, Miller spent the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders. Earlier in his career, he played for the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills.
His move to Dallas is particularly notable because Miller is a Texas native and grew up in the Dallas area. He attended DeSoto High School before playing college football at Texas A&M.
Could Adoree’ Jackson Be Next?
The Cowboys may not be finished adding veteran defensive talent.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Dallas has explored free-agent cornerback help, with Adoree’ Jackson emerging as one name to watch. Jackson previously worked with Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker in Philadelphia. However, there is currently no deal between Jackson and Dallas, and other teams are also interested in the veteran cornerback.
For now, Von Miller is the headline addition.
The veteran pass rusher is heading home to Dallas, and Cowboys fans will soon find out whether the former Super Bowl MVP can give the defense another dangerous weapon in 2026.
